I created Gyrator when I got my first Windows Mobile device which had accelerometers built into it, the HTC Diamond. I was frustrated to find out that the screen didn't rotate for applications that did not have support directly built into them, and there were no other applications which filled this gap. Gyrator was created in late 2008, when I was experimenting with a new library I had discovered. When I was happy with the results of my initial build, I released it, free of charge, into the XDA Developers community for other people to enjoy.
Over 280,000 people have downloaded Gyrator to date, and the support thread in the forum has over 1300 posts, including people showing their gratitude, and asking for additional features.
When I commenced my MSc at Salford University, the project fell dormant, and I purchased a new device, powered by a different OS, so I decided to retire the project, but leave it available in it's final state for people to continue to access.
